What does my warning light mean?

There are a number of warning lights that can appear on your dashboard including ABS and airbag lights, engine warning lights, brake warning lights and oil change lights. Each of these lights can be affected by several components within the system connected to your engine. Without performing a diagnostic test on your vehicle, it can be difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of the fault.

What happens during the diagnostic test?

When your vehicle comes in for a diagnostic test, our mechanics will attach a fault code reader to your engine bay. This code reader then scans the engine control unit (the computer within your vehicle) to identify any faults within the system. Once the test has been run, the diagnostic tool will show the mechanic the different fault codes that have appeared which are then translated into different components within the engine. These codes identify which component within your engine bay has the fault, so our team at Hobson Test Centre can go in and get it fixed as soon as possible.

Once the test has been run, our mechanics will contact you with the repairs that are required. It can often depend on the severity of the issue or the make and model of car as to how long this will take and the cost of it. We’ll provide a quote tailored to your vehicle, and on your approval, we can go ahead and fix the issue.

What areas of my vehicle are checked during a car diagnostic test?

At Hobson Test Centre, we have the latest diagnostic equipment in our garage to enable better accuracy of our diagnostic testing. During the test, the fault reading tool covers any issues with the engine, fluid levels within the system, temperatures, any issues with the ignition, exhaust problems, battery testing, the air conditioning system, brakes and ABS changes, tyres or steering, transmission issues and any electrical or wiring issues.
